The birth of our first child more than 20 years ago, was what first prompted us to investigate our diet and healthcare. A simple remark from our mid-wife, “what you eat will be absorbed by your child”, set us on a course of discovery. We found for example that Olive oil was effective in treating her drier than normal skin and with no harmful side effects. This awakening led us to question the value of the huge number of pharmaceutical products we had relied on in the past.
While our ancestors lived long, healthy lives using natural remedies, we and our generation had grown used to relying on ‘conventional medicines’, which only ever addressed the symptoms rather than effecting a cure. Then there was the question of cost. We found to our horror that we were spending around £1,500 per year with no tangible results, and some undesirable side effects. Not a good place to be!
This realisation inspired Susanne to embark on an in-depth study of old remedies and natural foods. This involved a massive amount of research and the discovery of safe, cost-effective treatments, often found in the kitchen cupboard rather than the bathroom cabinet.
It became increasingly obvious to both of us that the quality of the foods we eat and how they are farmed or bred has enormous impacts on our health and that of our families. High yield rather than high nutrition has a negative effect on crops and animals grown for food. Anyone who has seen the River Cottage episode where Hugh visits a chicken producer will understand the toxic nature of such an industry in how the chickens are raised, and you really would not want to eat their eggs or consume their flesh. This did not make us vegetarian or Vegan, but it did make us want to be fully responsible for the chicken’s lives and engage correctly in our unwritten contract with them.
It was not long before Susanne became the Chairman of the village Small Animal Breeders Organisation, and there we met many more people taking up the reins of looking after the animals they chose to keep on an honourable basis for keeping their animals and birds safe, fed, watered, sheltered, protected, and loved.
So, we chose to disengage from this level of malnutrition choosing more natural, locally grown, seasonal foods. Of course, this is a personal choice for everyone, and we must all live with the consequences of those choices.
Susanne’s father told her that her Great Grandmother Caroline was renowned for her traditional remedies and carried a wealth of knowledge of natural cures. This struck a chord with Susanne, although she had never me her Great Grandmother, she was strongly drawn to natural remedies.
Having worked as a qualified nurse in the health service, Susanne was disturbed to see so many people treated but not cured. Her questions remained unanswered, and she came to the conclusion that even with the best homeopathic remedies, without the right foods and correct nutrition your body cannot be healed.
Our research has really opened our eyes to the underlying causes of so much ill-health. Clearly our ancestors had access to clean air, clean water, nutritious foods and traditional remedies. While we cannot replicate this agrarian lifestyle, we can make better choices, like eating natural foods.
A detox programme will support your body’s natural defences and remove toxins. Removing these toxins will allow your body to reset, ready to absorb all the nutrition in your healthy diet. It doesn’t have to be a long-drawn-out process. Our traditional detox bath takes just 45 minutes!
As we continue our research into healthy alternatives, we will keep you informed of our discoveries. The more people wake up to the importance of maintaining healthy habits, the more rewarding our work becomes.
